Main Ingredient: Product Marketing
Not to be confused with Website marketing, “Product Marketing” specifically targets the sale of your online product or service.
This section often gets confused with website popularity when it comes to driving the traffic; the difference is that Product Marketing’s traffic is already on your site, or at least in an extension of your site like a viral application you gave away, or a newsletter linking to your sales page online. Think: Repeat lookers.
These aren’t random surfers coming to your website, these are LEADS coming to your “BUY NOW” BUTTON. There’s a very distinct difference because it’s been proven that cold prospects are pitched to on average SEVEN TIMES before buying online.
Obviously, I prefer working with this kind of traffic by far. It’s not just that they’ve already been pre-sold once or more, but these folks are more closely tied to your income, and the number of visitors you can generate here can be much larger! (Email lists usually build up over time to be much larger than any one days’ worth of traffic.)
Since there is so much to know about sales in any type of business, it shouldn’t be surprising that I had to break down this Ingredient into five distinct sub-categories.
The first is called “Sales page writing” and has a quite lot to say about the science of writing great sales copy for online use. If there’s any one skill that all the biggest Internet Gurus have learned to master, this is it. So if you’re selling anything online, get comfy and start watching these videos.
Second up is the most profitable thing to master online these days, “List Building.” This specifically deals with how to grow large, targeted mailing lists of subscribers. In case you weren’t aware, this topic is the soul difference between a rich affiliate and a poor affiliate!
“Affiliate Programs and JVs” are grouped together as a third sub-category because they are primarily the exact same thing with only a difference in quantity. (They both sell for you, but a Joint Venture partner is just one guy whereas you can have thousands of affiliates.) You’ll need to have a product to sell before you use this section at all.
The fourth sub-cat, “Viral Products,” Is my all-time favorite way to generate traffic. Everyone except for the AdSense Farmers needs to go through this section before sleeping tonight!
Finally, there are small but growing list of different, off-site tactics that couldn’t be grouped into one of the above methods, such as posting in forums. I grouped these together as “Other Off-site Marketing.” All traditional offline and even some non-traditional methods fit in this sub-category.
