Welcome to the future of the web. Web 2.0, to be exact. We, the first generation of net-heads have officially turned over the helm to the current dominating influence on it, our upstart, whippersnapper teens. In today’s most popular web destinations like MySpace and YouTube, it’s quite apparent that they outnumber us by a large margin!

The most obvious influence they’ve had from an internet marketer’s point of view is the invention of Tags. A tag is nothing more than a keyword, but it is so much more ACCESSABLE. Used on “Social Bookmarking” sites like Del.icio.us, Furl, and Technorati, they do the exact thing that Google and all other search engines respect the most. Each Tag indexes a single reference to content elsewhere.

But with Social Bookmarking, as the name implies, HUMANS do the referencing, not servers. You just have to know that Google loves this!

It’s no surprise to me that Tags have taken off so quickly, leaving us Internet Marketers scrambling in the wake trying to find ways to take advantage of it.

To date, there’s not too much that will let us tap into this huge resource yet, just the product above and a few other pathetic attempts that had no real results.

The most advanced tactic for using Tags in internet marketing is called “Tag And Ping,” which Tag Automator also does for you easily.

It’s really a simple process, you create tags on the Social Bookmarking site of your choice and then you “ping” (quick submit) to various aggregator services for them to visit. These quickly index your tags and include links back to your site(s).

The bottom line is that you can really get some high PR backlinks to your sites faster this way than with any other method, and that’s why it’s so important to not overlook Social Bookmarking. Tag & Ping is THE premier link building strategy for those in the know.

Will Google ever figure this out and down-grade the worth of Tags? Sure they will! They downgrade the worth of everything as the web grows. So the way I see it, those that do use this channel of link building are likely to “Break even” or better, because they keep growing, and if you don’t use it, you’ll be left behind.

At least for now, if you are serious about ranking highly in Google, I’d start social bookmarking by hand like crazy, or go get the Tag Automator software. The FREE version above lets you use it on Del.icio.us as long as you want.
